About Peter Drucker

The Man Who Invented Management, Why Peter Drucker's ideas still matter?

BusinessWeek Magazine - November 28, 2005 (cover story)

Little more than six months ago, I was sitting within a foot of Peter F. Drucker's right ear -- the one he could still hear from -- in the living room of his modest home in Claremont, Calif. Even that close, I had to shout my questions to him, often eliciting a "What?" rather than an answer.Read the full article

Peter Ferdinand Drucker - The man who invented management
(November 19,1909 – November 11,2005)

Peter F. Drucker was a profound writer, consultant and professor of management. He is the author of thirty-nine books, which have been translated into more than twenty languages. Barrier breaking ideas that ran through his writing and gave him prominence range from those dealing with the knowledge economy to those addressing management by objectives and entrepreneurship.

As we head deeper into the 21st century, Peter Drucker’s legacy still lives on. It lives on through those who continues to embrace his ideas and through those businesses and non-profits organizations on which Drucker left his unique input.

His legacy lives on through several Educational Institutes all over the globe. It lives on through the Peter Drucker Academy in China and lives on above all, through Peter Drucker’s own words through his 39 books and countless articles.

Nevertheless, Drucker’s legacy also lives on through a unique set of volunteer organizations that are actively converting his teachings into real results - The Peter Drucker Societies.

The Drucker Institute & The Drucker Societies

The Drucker Institute (www.druckerinstitute.com) began in 1999 as the Peter F. Drucker Archives, with a basic mission to house the papers of this prolific author. This is still an integral part of what it does. In 2006, the Institute’s Board of Advisors and Claremont Graduate University decided to expand this mission and extend the scope of the institute.

The Institute is a campus-wide resource of Claremont Graduate University (www.cgu.edu) and is closely aligned with the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management, where Peter Drucker taught for 35 years and which continues to produce effective managers and ethical leaders for business, government and civil society.

Drucker Societies are at the forefront of a global movement to stimulate effective management and ethical leadership.

These all-volunteer organizations draw on Peter Drucker’s vast body of work for information and inspiration as they seek to effect positive change in their local communities.

By implementing a slate of programs, developed in conjunction with the Drucker Institute, the Drucker Society Network has become a living, breathing embodiment of Peter Drucker’s ideas and ideals.

Their activities include advanced management training programs in which members discuss Drucker’s teachings and how to apply them to their companies and communities; Drucker-based training programs for nonprofit organizations; presentations on Drucker and his principles for high school students; workshops on innovation for would-be entrepreneurs; and much more.

The Drucker Institute forms the Societies and serves them as a hub by supporting their efforts.
